Equipment

  • Small nonstick skillet
  • Mixing spoon
  • Small bowl
  • Knife and peeler for prepping the apple

Ingredients

  • 1 medium apple peeled, cored, and sliced thin
  • 2 tbsp rolled oats
  • 1 tbsp whole wheat flour
  • 1/8 tsp cinnamon
  • pinch of nutmeg
  • 1 tbsp nutmeg
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 tsp honey or maple syrup optional for added sweetness

Instructions

  • Melt the butter in a small skillet over medium heat.
  • Add the sliced apple and cook for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until soft and fragrant.
  • In a small bowl, mix the oats, flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  • Sprinkle the oat mixture into the skillet and stir gently to coat the apples.
  • Add honey or maple syrup, if using, and stir again.
  • Continue cooking for 3–4 more minutes until the topping turns lightly golden and smells like warm pie.
  • Let it cool slightly before serving. For younger babies, mash gently or chop finer to reduce any choking risk.

Notes

Storage: Keep leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat gently in the microwave or on the stovetop before serving.
Freezer-Friendly: Freeze cooled portions in silicone containers or small airtight tubs for up to 2 months.
Baby-Friendly Modifications: Skip the honey for babies under 12 months. Mash well or finely chop for early eaters.
Allergy Substitutions: Use coconut oil instead of butter for a dairy-free version. Substitute gluten-free flour and oats if needed.
Nutrition Boosts: Stir in ground flaxseed, chia, or even a spoonful of almond butter after cooking to add fiber and healthy fats.
Toddler Tip: Call it “apple pie oats” to make it sound extra fun!
